Landing Lights Area Noise Abatement

Q. & A. on Noise Abatement

Noise and air pollution are the most pressing problems of the Landing Lights area according to many residents. This page will provide info on this issue.

From the Port Authority, June 2006 -

Q. In August 2001, at a WTC meeting to discuss noise abatement, it was stated that sound proofing schools near the NYC airports was nearly completed and that other noise problems might be addressed with abatement funds in the future. Please provide an update.

A. ...quite a bit has changed since 2001. First, the amount of funding we receive from the federal government for soundproofing has been significantly reduced over the last few years, so we are much further behind in completing schools in our program. However, we do expect to complete all the eligible schools in the next 2 or 3 years. At that time we expect to seek FAA guidance on how we can further take advantage of the soundproofing funds.
